Walk Historic Southend with Past Preservers!

NEW YORK CITY and CAIRO—5th December 2011—Past Preservers and Crimson Bamboo LLC announced today the launch of a new Rama tour that charts the fascinating development of Southend in England, from a fishing hamlet to a fashionable seaside resort.

Southend-on-Sea began life as a tiny hamlet at the ‘South End’ of Prittlewell parish,” enthused writer and local historian Ian Yearsley, “but thanks to the successful cultivation of oysters and the arrival of the railway in 1856 the town soon reinvented itself in popular memory as the place to go for a seaside break”.

The tour covers some of the more important Georgian and Victorian attractions to give the reader a feel for the fledgling town which still lies hidden behind the modern town. These include Southend Pier, the Royal Hotel and the Kursaal.

Michael Carroll, co-founder of Crimson Bamboo, stated “we are very lucky to have Ian Yearsley writing for us. He has written extensively on the history of his native Essex and published eight books, several of which have topped local bestseller lists. Ian has used all of his insight and knowledge to create the Historic Southend tour. It includes the kind of details and appreciation for Southend that only come with a lifetime of living locally."

Historic Southend is another great addition to our catalogue of tours” reported Nigel Hetherington, CEO and founder of Past Preservers. “Over 100 more tours are on their way and we are always interested in finding new and creative authors to join our happy band of writers.”

Rama can be downloaded at http://bit.ly/iTunesRama and was named as one of the ten best new travel apps by BBC Travel in 2010. Author info packs can be requested by writing to info@pastpreservers.com.

Crimson Bamboo is a New York City-based Limited Liability Company founded in March 2010 with the mission of creating new convergences between people, data and the world.
