Discover the Dome of the Rock!

NEW YORK CITY and CAIRO—12th November 2011—Past Preservers and Crimson Bamboo LLC announced today the launch of a new Rama tour that explores the unique Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.

Matthew Morowitz’s tour, The Dome of the Rock, sets out to lead the reader through the centuries of history and religious devotion that helped to make the Dome of the Rock a unique place in the world.

Morowitz is an award winning scholar who graduated from Dickinson College in the US, when he specialized in both Archaeology and Art History. He draws on skills from both of these disciplines to introduce the visitor to the history, architecture and decoration of the Dome structure.

“The Dome of the Rock is such an important site for world heritage”, explained Michael Carroll co-founder of Crimson Bamboo, “we are keen to publish Morowitz’s well-written and informative guide to help visitors understand the complex layers of art and history that continue to fascinate and inspire through out the centuries.”

"I was interested in the Dome of the Rock after taking some Islamic Art and Archaeology courses during my time abroad.” Stated Morowitz. “I was very interested in the mosaics of the structure, as well as the connections it shared with architecture of Classical Antiquity.  In this tour is I am trying to present as much about the different histories that have shaped the appearance of the building over time."

Rama was named as one of the ten best new travel apps by BBC Travel in 2010 and can be downloaded at http://bit.ly/iTunesRama.
